I almost ordered this one a while back. I'll add it to the collection at some point for certain.

I'm glad you posted something from this guy...
Turns out, it's getting a digital release on September 16th! This is the same Neo Geo dev team that did Gunlord X as well apparently, which was excellent.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm pretty interested given the high praise and its limited physical run. That it's the Gunlord team also inspires confidence.

I backed this just because the dude seems really cool on Twitter (and we mutually follow each other).
Also, there's no shortage of stuff that I want. I'm gonna have to curb my spending impulses here and just make do with digital - the cart side of things is really pricey. I'd like to get Demons of Asteborg, this, and Alwa's Awakening on NES, but that's a lot of cash to drop!

Aw, heck, of course I backed that second one. Gonna leave the other two alone, though. I'll probably regret it later, given how most of these things skyrocket in price, but whatever. Gotta learn to be happy with digital sometimes!

lol, I remember reading about Infinity 20 years ago. There was an interview where one of their sales argument was that Japanese RPGs have bad translations, among other criticisms, so a Western-made JRPG knockoff would totally be better. Imagine the nerve of talking shit about a genre you're completely aping. I remember thinking their game looked amateurish and would probably flop. It never came out.
Then some years later, I bought Pier Solar, which its dev shamelessly claimed was totally objectively better than Phantasy Star IV in every way, and it was so trash I couldn't finish it. I finished Blue Almanac/Star Odyssey around that time! I wasn't difficult! So I'm just very suspicious at Western attempts at making a Japanese RPG.
They sure seem to get a lot of kickstarter money every time, though.

After seeing all the Game Boy development kits/RADs lately, I figured it wouldn't be long before we'd see an increase in games for the platform. This is potentially a good thing.

There are some successful Western "JRPGs."
Pier Solar is not one of them.

I actually mostly enjoyed Pier Solar, but I know I'm in the minority on that front. I also enjoyed Black Sigil, flawed as it was. And I played through Shadow Madness, which is horribly unbalanced but really funny and well-written for what it is.
