Sunk in about ~9 hours for the Nioh 2 DLC across all the main/sub missions. Not bad. I ended up buying the "season pass" for $19.99, since 2 more DLC's are still planned after this one. Prior to this, among some of the patches they even added in new free missions throughout. I crossed the 101 hour mark today. The game that just keeps on giving. I had finished "Act 1" of Tsushima, probably a dozen hours in. Unfortunately like some of Sony's other modern games, there is no in game timer anywhere which is annoying. Anyways, I wasn't really feeling it jumping back into it today, so I might need a break. So I put an hour into The Messenger and I'm definitely digging it. Pretty sure Sarge approves of this one. I was weary the "humor" that I've heard so much about would maybe not land with me, but it's pretty awesome so far and seems enduring. I remember hearing the composer on a VGM podcast awhile back and he's got a lot of death metal roots in a band and all. You can kind of tell, these chiptunes are aggressive and different. To the point I'm not sure I "love" the style so far, but it's still good stuff. I like the graphics more than I expected. To me it doesn't look like authentic 8/16bit stuff, but it's still pretty sexy. So far so good. I figured since I own it I'd hit this one up before Curse of the Moon 2.

I absolutely love the soundtrack for the game. But yeah, it's not quite authentic in that the color palettes seem a bit more vibrant that a typical NES game, although perhaps one might see that look in a Master System game. The soundtrack is absolutely authentic, though - the 8-bit sections are Famitracker NES, and the 16-bit is Deflemask-composed Genesis.
It plays super smooth, though. Once you get all your movement options, half the fun is finding a flow moving through areas. And seriously, check out a speedrun of this after you're done - some of the movement tech is absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah, the controls are freaking good. I keep thinking I need a slide... or something to speed up my ground movement, so I hope that comes. I was laughing in the few levels I've played already, yeah just thinking about how this one is probably chalk full of sequence breaking possibilities or some crazy maneuvering with the attack + extra jump mechanic.

Maybe not your running speed, but you're definitely going to get something to speed up movement.

Oh, yeah, that area is pretty wild. Hope you're still enjoying it!

Yep... this game is amazing. This already makes the cut on my list of favorite neo retro games. I am loving the difficulty incline. Games with swords are the best.

I definitely think it's interesting they actually go from an NES style to Genesis FM, rather than SNES. But I'm not complaining! That one gave me some awesome Sonic & Knuckles vibes.
Also the boss at the Tower of Time was 10/10 material.

Yeah, that was something that surprised me as well. But I definitely like it, and it probably fits better with the NES-style compositions than SNES samples.
