If I end up playing this, I'll go PC. Maybe there some of the bugs have been patched up and there will be a lot faster loading. The PC version is surely optimal, agreed. I do hope you give New Vegas a chance. Between it, and Deus Ex, your comfort zone would be challenged and expanded. I'll wager you would enjoy both games quite a bit, once you became acclimated to them.

I'm sure I will at some point. I actually don't think the modern Fallout games would be that far outside my comfort zone, though - I've played a bit of it, and can definitely see enjoying them.

Yeah, probably true. Although I'd probably throw the Mass Effect games into that category (even if they're more third-person). The whole VATS system is pretty slick, and a great way to get the RPG aspect in without becoming a full twitch game.

Although I'd probably throw the Mass Effect games into that category To an extent. The ME games aren't first person or open world like New Vegas, but they do share the moral freedom aspect. Deus Ex is closer to Mass Effect in its mission designs, with stages that are confined into singular areas, but large enough to offer alternate routes through them. Oh yeah, VATS is great stuff. I never got tired of it in F3 or FNV. The limited action points makes using VATS become a strategic affair as well.

My brother finished all of Fallout 3, by the way, and put a ton of time into Fallout 4 as well. I'm not entirely sure he dumped much time into New Vegas, though.

My friend was ranting about this russian game called Metro Exodus today, and comparing it to Fallout. It's a FPS more than an RPG, but this particular entry in the series is more open-ended since you finally make it outside (the previous games had you stuck inside the subway and things like that). So it's an open-ended, post-apocalyptic FPS set in the wastelands of Moscow. He says the dialogues are great, too. Modern game, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

toeiI've got a few of the Metro games on 360. From a glance they reminded me more of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. than Fallout. But I'll take your mention into consideration when I get a PS4.

I've heard pretty good things about them, too. Wonder where @tsumuri has been? I bet he's played through them.

Apparently the third one is the one that's got Fallout-ish vibes. The earlier ones were set in confined spaces. And yeah, I was thinking that Tsumuri must have played those for sure.
