Heh. Yeah, super janky. The NES version isn't considered all that great by a lot of folks. It's the arcade and Genesis port that has the best reputation. I don't much care for those, either. Strider 2, on the other hand, is a blast. Not the U.S. Gold Genesis game Strider Returns, either, the arcade/PSX game from Capcom. Sure, and it's still overrated! In honesty, I saw a lot of people defending it as better than the Genesis game. I can see the appeal, but the execution is lacking. Not to mention some awful translations, too. The Genesis game is awesome. I haven't played the arcade game in many years, and I don't believe I ever played Strider Returns. Not finished with Strider yet, but every level makes me more sure of my opinion that this game is overrated. However, switching out NES controllers did make the platforming a bit better. Quick question, you all. If I'm on a platform and I jump straight up into the air, what should happen? I should land right back on that platform, right? Wrong! Strider thinks I should go through that platform to the next one down. Ya, those jumps were trippy the entire game. Although, that last level is a blast. I don't recall people raving about it, but my guess would be from the anime. It is a little sad about the game, if they cleaned up the jumping it would be a good game. Especially that wall jump, ugh...
The AI could use some cleaning up. Yeah, it definitely has potential, which is why I keep playing it, I think. I usually quick sell botched rush jobs with bad controls, but swapping out the controllers allowed me at least to keep trudging on.

Like I said, the original Strider definitely has its fans! Seriously, though, if you haven't played Strider 2, you should.

Sarge Yeah, never played Strider 2, either. I do remember looking into it at one point and writing it off for some reason. Looking at gameplay videos, I don't remember exactly why. What makes it so much better than Strider 1?
Edit: Actually, looking back, I at one point really wanted it, and for some reason stopped bothering with it over the last 5 years, but again, I don't remember why.

I still think it's a bit hilarious they label-swapped the PS1 games, though. Strider 2 labeled as Strider 1 and vice versa.

I wonder if they just wanted to add to Strider's tradition of confusing titles. They should just release a brand new game in 2021, entirely unrelated to all previous Strider games, and call it Strider 1 & 2: NES Strider Returns.

Almost 20 years ago I saw this screenshot on www.engrish.com. I didn't figure out it was from Forgotten Worlds until just now. I have the Genesis version of this game now but haven't yet played it.

Forgotten Worlds / I have the Genesis version of this game now but haven't yet played it. The Genesis version is a pretty good port. Although this version has only seven of the arcade's nine stages. But, considering the arcade version felt too long for its own good, that's not necessarily a negative. I found a great article that contrasts the differences between the Genesis and TurboGrafx-CD versions: www.sega-16.com/2006/04/side-by-side-forgotten-worlds-genesis-vs-super-cd-rom2/As far as I know, the only way to play the full arcade version of Forgotten Worlds on a console or handheld in a sanctioned manner, is via these releases:
