There is a new retranslation for the SNES platformer Skyblazer. Very underrated game. The main difference is that the original game's setting is based on Hindu and Buddhist mythology, which was removed in the US translation, so this one brings back the original flavor.

Had no idea about that. Wonder how many other SNES games had some Hindu/Buddhist influence? It's always a cool touch. Asura's Wrath takes it to the next level with the surreal sci-fi/DBZ like elements.
Skyblazer rocks so that might be a fun excuse for a replay sometime.

He's talking about helping if anyone wants to bring it out officially in English, which seems like more of a stretch than a fan-translation, but not impossible either. I would welcome either, and buy if that's how it comes to us in English. It's the final significant game of Sega's console era.
Apparently there's a fan translation project or two but it doesn't sound too serious or focused. I don't know. Maybe the Rent A Hero No. 1 people can do it?
From a comment under the article:
"It's been in "the works" for I believe more than a decade. The text compression is a huge pain in the ass with this game in particular. You can find a video of some progress made, they can just barely fit any English on a line. The actual translation is easy mode. Some of the great SEGA romhackers outright refuse to work on it now, and I don't believe it's actively getting worked on."
So yeah, apparently the problem is on the technical side this time, not a lack of interest from translators. Full translations of the script supposedly exist, though maybe as draft that need a bit more polish. Won't a superhacker take on it?

This one's interesting visually, with that early 3D look. In the original PC version you just clicked on still 2D images to move around, there wasn't any animation. So big improvement there. Weird that there's no music a lot of the times, not what we're used to with RPGs.

If it weren't for the goofy character portrait in the top left of the second image, I'd almost think I was looking at a King's Field menu. Even looks like similar font.
The no music thing is a bummer. Looks pretty cool otherwise. Decent chance this one is pretty cool being in the golden era of JRPG's.

It's really a WRPG from 1992, though. This is just a souped-up port of it.
