I remember liking the Wizardry games, but it simple took too long to beat. Wow, the internet says the the main story is 67h!?

They are long grindy games. The only Wizardry I put much time into was Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land on PS2. Put about 23 hours into it before I got tired of the grind. HLTB says that one's 42-48 hours long. It was a great game aesthetically and aurally, but the grind ground me down.

Very nice, been curious about the non-NES ones a bit, though this is FDS. I need to get back to 2-3 sometime and finish those. Really cool series.

Not a fan of Illusion of Gaia when I played it (it's alright), but I do remember it being pretty incoherent, which is something the retranslation aims to fix. So maybe it could improve on the game.

I've been saying that for years, but would run into some others claiming the original source/story itself is pretty mangled too. So I'm not sure how much this would salvage haha... it's a little enticing to check out a little bit of it I guess. But yeah I'm not really running out to ever replay this one. One of the weaker Quintet games in my book.
I've caught some streamers going through it over the recent years though. It's easy to forget it had some truly asinine "puzzles" at times too, like stand on the corner of this generic block for awhile to trigger a door, etc. lol...

The plot is definitely mangled, but I always have a blast with it.

I've only beaten IoG once, back in 1996 or 1997, one of those years. I can't recall much about its plot at all. I do remember mostly enjoying the game (I'm due a replay). Translation aside, I think this is the most meaningful fan hack to come along for this game: www.romhacking.net/hacks/7295/
