Okay I am going to recommend some retro games to HRG members. (If I didn't include you, it's 'cause I don't know your tastes well enough yet. Post more...)
-
anayo Battlezone (1998) PC
Dark Reign: The Future of War (1997) PC
Myth: The Fallen Lords (1997) PC
-All high quality late '90s PC RTS I bet you'd love.
Bionicle Heroes (2006) PC
-LEGO-related over-the-shoulder mecha-shooter that's underrated.
Chasm: The Rift (1997) PC
-Very much in the vein of Quake. Authentic BOOMER FPS.
-
bonesnapdeez Atari Classics Evolved (PSP) 2007
-Includes 11 Atari classics remade, and 50 unlockable Atari 2600 games.
G.G Series Collection Plus (DS) 2010
Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection (PC) 2008
-Dat Falcom goodness.
-
Chema
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact (PSP) 2011
-IIRC you like Naruto, and for fans of the anime this beat 'em up is fun.
Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition (PC) 2001
-One of the best PC FPS ever made.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP) 2011
-You enjoyed FF Tactics so this is required as a counterpoint. It's available on various platforms.
-
paulofthewest Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (3DS) 2013 (originally released in 1997 on Saturn/PlayStation)
-As much as you've enjoyed other SMT games, I think you'd get a kick out of this one.
Silent Storm: Gold Edition (PC) 2005
-Forgotten but high quality WSRPG.
Wild ARMs XF (PSP) 2008
-Hexagon grid based JSRPG with charming presentation and above average difficulty.
-
Sarge Bermuda Syndrome (PC) 1995
onEscapee (PC) 2004
-Cinematic platformers you may enjoy.
Brandish 2 (SNES) 1995
-This is just as good as Brandish was on PSP, except more complex, more difficult, and even more interesting.
Commando: Steel Disaster (DS) 2008
-It's like Metal Slug but mega hard!
Marvelous: Another Treasure Island (SFC) 1996
-This should be 100% up your alley man. It's kind of in the vein of For the Frog the Bell Tolls except much more interesting IMO.
Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection (PC) 2008
-Same as above. Now you have a computer that can run this fantastic action-JRPG. It's completely worth your time.
-
Cosmology of Kyoto (PC) 1995
-An adventure game steeped in Japanese mysticism and Shinto horror.
Ninja Hayate (Saturn) 1997
-Fun goofy FMV ninja action with quality oldschool animation.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (PC) 2005
-One of the best ninja games I've ever played. Yes you're a modern ninja in this game, for all intents and purposes.
-
Xeogred King's Field: The Ancient City (PS2) 2002
Front Mission 5 (PS2) 2005
-Every day that passes in which you haven't played these two yet, is a crime not only against humanity, but also yourself.
Prince of Persia (SNES) 1992
-You enjoy games that are fun, dark in theme, and seriously challenge you. This one fits all those criteria.
Soma Bringer (DS) 2008
-Put Diablo, Secret of Mana, and Xenoblade in a blender, this is what you get. It's outstanding. You can emulate it on PC with big screens and up'res'd graphics and use a gamepad.
