I bought Tactics Ogre at launch, though I never made it past the first chapter of the game. The experience I gained playing FFT should come in handy. I'll admit that the PSP version of TO eventually becomes very difficult, the final 15% of the game (Hanging Gardens area) is brutal. Much more so than FFT ever becomes. As a result, from a technical/strategy aspect TO can be more rewarding than FFT. But FFT wins in other categories. Both are required beats for true SRPG fans. 🧐 In other words, the pauses are intentional--and I saw no easy way to remove them. Well dang. I'm glad you gave Silent Storm a fair chance regardless. It's a cult classic to some, but the issue you discuss was mentioned in critical reviews in its day. I don't know if a mod exists to fix that. I can definitely understand how it's not ideal. Yep. Switch before Switch.

Yep. Switch before Switch. What is weird is that the Vita doesn't officially support this. I've seen simple cracks and I've see Vita TV (which isn't a good replacement), but for PSP you buy < $10 cable...done!

paulofthewestI think it was a major misstep for Sony to not have included an HDMI (or mini-HDMI) port on the Vita. That and the rear touchscreen were both dumb tech design decisions.

First I've ever heard of the rear touchscreen.

Yeah, there's not many games that bother to use it. Uncharted is about the only one that attempts to use all the features, which I think actually hurts the game a bit.
PSTV was a good idea in theory, but in practice it has too many limitations with some Vita software (the aforementioned Uncharted included) that keep it from being an ideal experience. I do wish, however, that I'd gone ahead and bought the other one our Walmart had on clearance - they were like $30 and also come with a DualShock 3. They're fairly pricey now, depending on how much is included. They are really good to hack, though - I've got mine and an SD2Vita adapter, although I really haven't put a whole lot of time into it.

First I've ever heard of the rear touchscreen. Yep: The front display screen is also a touchscreen. So the Vita has two touchscreens in total. Or I guess the rear is a touchpad technically.

Sounds about as important as the PS4's own global map button touchpad...

Yep, pretty much. I think the most I've actually seen done with it is that if you press it on the left side it does one thing, and on the right, another.

While the Vita is my favorite handheld, I would 100% agree on the rear touchscreen being a misstep. It just never worked properly and without a grip on the Vita your fingers naturally where all over it.
Not as bothered about a hdmi out. I like my handheld experiences in my hands on a small screen.

I like my handheld experiences in my hands on a small screen. I do as well. It's just so many people get excited about their handheld broadcasting to their HDTV, that the inclusion of an HDMI port would have been a keen selling point. My personal only REAL issue of aggravation with the Vita, is how you have to swipe the screen open every time you boot it up. I'm talking about the physical task of peeling back the welcome screen to show the "desktop". Okay Sony... that's cool exactly once, after that it's just annoying. No, I don't want to smear finger smudges on my Vita's screen every time I go to play it. Especially when 95% of the games I play on Vita wisely avoid the touchscreen/touchpad altogether. There should have been an option in the Vita's OS to disable that.
