Okay I am going to recommend some retro games to HRG members. (If I didn't include you, it's 'cause I don't know your tastes well enough yet. Post more...) ... paulofthewest Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (3DS) 2013 (originally released in 1997 on Saturn/PlayStation) -As much as you've enjoyed other SMT games, I think you'd get a kick out of this one. Silent Storm: Gold Edition (PC) 2005 -Forgotten but high quality WSRPG. Wild ARMs XF (PSP) 2008
-Hexagon grid based JSRPG with charming presentation and above average difficulty.
I'll start with Silent Storm. All those look good though =) Sir, yes, sir!

Xeogred King's Field: The Ancient City (PS2) 2002 Front Mission 5 (PS2) 2005 -Every day that passes in which you haven't played these two yet, is a crime not only against humanity, but also yourself. Prince of Persia (SNES) 1992 -You enjoy games that are fun, dark in theme, and seriously challenge you. This one fits all those criteria.
Soma Bringer (DS) 2008
-Put Diablo, Secret of Mana, and Xenoblade in a blender, this is what you get. It's outstanding. You can emulate it on PC with big screens and up'res'd graphics and use a gamepad. Bit of a mood thing with the first three, but I expect to play KF4 this year for sure.
Soma Bringer is one I think I should finally hit up at least before the next Xenoblade, so I should have a few years to get that done. I know Monolith Soft has a few other non-Xeno IP's, but this one in particular still looks like it has Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga all over it. So... Portable Xeno in all but name? haha, I bet I'll love it.

I'll start with Silent Storm. I haven't beaten Silent Storm personally, but what I played was promising. I'd be surprised if you didn't come away happy with the experience. I expect to play KF4 this year for sure. Probably a good game for late fall. That fits the tone. For Soma Bringer Tetsuya Takahashi was the producer and Soraya Saga was the scenario designer. Once you get passed the first kinda boring area (it's the tutorial really), it all opens up and evolves into compounding awesome.

Zwei runs pretty well on the Deck now that I've fiddled with it a bunch. I think the movie sequences are still half speed, but those are few and far between, so I'm not too concerned. It looks like it might be a good one for me to chip away on while I'm not playing Xenoblade 3.

Oh yeah, playing Zwei 2 on a handheld like that would be ideal. I can assure you it's a far shorter game than X3 at least.

Oh, I don't doubt that one bit. HLTB bears that out.

Chema
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact (PSP) 2011 -IIRC you like Naruto, and for fans of the anime this beat 'em up is fun.
Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition (PC) 2001
-One of the best PC FPS ever made.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP) 2011 -You enjoyed FF Tactics so this is required as a counterpoint. It's available on various platforms.
Play some retro games dudes! Thanks for the recommendations! Haven't played that Naruto game. I'll check it out! Soldier of Fortune has been on my GOG wishlist for a while, but I am currently on a summer break visiting my brother in Germany, where the game is banned. I need to log in from a different country in order to buy and play it. I bought Tactics Ogre at launch, though I never made it past the first chapter of the game. I really need to make time to restart it. The experience I gained playing FFT should come in handy.

Ex So Silent Storm: Gold Edition is a good recommendation, but I've decided to move on. The games has plenty of things I like, but I have a difficult time with games that have long pauses all over the place. Namely whenever it is the enemies' turn the computer can take over a minute to complete it's actions. While I'm sure I'm being impatient (well, by definition, yes) the other issue is I know 2005 AI running on a Ryzen 3rd gen should NOT take that long. In other words, the pauses are intentional--and I saw no easy way to remove them. That all said it is a good rec, good TRPG, simple leveling system with different classes. The first few maps were fun, just slow... I decided to try Wild Arms and it is definitely more my style. Unfortunately, I did not realize that a PSP has a special memory card, which didn't come with the one I got. So, it will be a couple more days while that comes in. Also, the fact that the PSP can hook up to my TV is a big plus. I'm spoiled with the large screen of the Switch.
