I've strangely got only one CRT with S-Video right now (my big honking 32" Trinitron). The other two are 20" sets that are composite and component. S-Video is generally the best you can get unmodded out of a lot of systems, so losing that on a set is a bummer!

Update: my new drive reads some of my rewritten games. I tested everything I own - the very obviously Nintendo written disks work first try without issue, and load fast. The strange part is, some of my rewritten games work - Tobidasae Daisakusen, Akumajou Noroi no Fuin/Castlevania 2, and then like, side A only on rewritten games such as Metroid, Kaettekika Mario Bros (this is a weird one - side A of this came as Kaettekika Mario Bros, but side B had been rewritten to Donkey Kong by someone in Japan. I rewrote side B, which also means I had to rewrite side A... yet that side works while side B doesn't!), while two rewritten disks don't work at all - Zelda 1 and Akumajou Dracula/Castlevania 1. When I boot any disk in my other drive, the one I used to rewrite the disks, they all work no problem. This is where the rumor I'd read about some games not working on other drives comes from, it seems! I don't feel like doing so today, but at some point I'll rewrite the problem disks and see if it was a bad write or something (though I'm loathe to rewrite Metroid, since it has my clear save on it with the best ending lol).

Yeah, that feels like it might be just a bad write or something. Dunno. Hope you get it sorted out. Can you do a read to somewhere else and back up that Metroid save, though?

There is a "read" function on the FDSStick application, but I have no idea if it also carries over the save. I'll give it a shot, but even if it doesn't work, it's not that huge a deal - I'll just have to play Metroid again

Apparently, Japanese channels 1 and 2 do not correspond to American channels 1 and 2, they're 95/96. I couldn't program my TVs that high (neither went above channel 70), so all I get is a messed up picture when I turn the Famicom on when my TV is set to channel 2 - so I at least know my Famicom *works*. Just can't use it! Going to look into RGB modding it eventually, if the things ever come back in stock. I've preordered one of these, they're making a new batch later this month, to get around my Famicom video output issue, even though it's just composite out. I'll post here about how well it works when I get it and install it.

I forgot to check my TV - I've been knee-deep in wireless router shenanigans, haha. That looks pretty slick, though! If I get a Famicom and have issues, this looks like an excellent solution. (I may also be able to mod my unused toploader for expansion audio.)

Yeah, that feels like it might be just a bad write or something. Dunno. Hope you get it sorted out. Can you do a read to somewhere else and back up that Metroid save, though? Update on this - finally got around to trying to rewrite these disks, and it's good and bad news - Metroid and Kaettekita Mario Bros now reliably work on all my drives! I cannot get Akumajou Dracula or Zelda 1 to work on the drive inside my Twin Famicom, however they do still load on the drive I've been using to write disks with. I tried rewriting both of those games like a dozen times, with different roms, to no avail. Something in the copy protection circuitry on my Twin Famicom drive must be tripping up the disk read - and it must be on the power supply board, because the drive inside the Twin Famicom is a new 7201 drive, which is free of copy protection circuitry. Unfortunately my Twin Famicom power supply is not documented in English anywhere as far as I can see, so I have no idea how to mod it to remove copy protection, which sucks. Oh well, I can play those two games on my modded drive without issues.
Good to know that attempting to rewrite the disks can make them work on all drives now, so that's good. Makes me feel better about attempting to rewrite anyone else's disks, if I ever attempt that. I guess my copies of Zelda/Castlevania might be bad disks? No amount of rewriting works on the one drive anyway... Who knows lol
Oh, also, I couldn't back up my save of Metroid, I probably did something wrong, but it's no big deal, I can happily replay the game.

Bummer, but yeah, at least that's not a long game. Glad you're making progress figuring it all out, it'll help me in the future.
I just checked, and my largest Trinitron does go up past 100 on the channels, so I may be good on that front. My smaller one only goes to 69. Haven't checked the RCA TruFlat I've got sitting unused, haha. I... probably shouldn't add any more CRTs to the mix.

I'm afraid to go over to the CRT section of my local junk shop for fear of bringing another one home lol. Glad to hear your Trinitron goes that high though, you should be able to use the Famicom out of the box without issues.

Haha, I know that feeling. I've got a coworker that wants to give me another at some point, and it's a 27" CRT with S-Video. I have no idea where I'd put it under the circumstances.
