Haha, just a short little jaunt! Lower or Upper? I haven't had a chance to visit, but I've got a friend of mine from there that was a yooper.
Also, I was looking, and Famicom prices... aren't the best? Looks like I'd be out $50 regardless of what I do on eBay. It almost has me wondering if I should do the Twin Famicom thing like you, haha.

Lower, I've barely been to the U.P. (who cares about trees lmao).
Both my Twin Famicom and regular Famicom were from Yahoo Auctions Japan via Sendico, which should be cheaper than anything you'd find on eBay, I'd think. Though iirc my Twin was like $80 or so, but it was listed with a working drive (which was true until I broke it lol). The regular Famicom - complete in box - was $17.16 before shipping, though haha

Ah, I should really look into that avenue, then. I've never done Sendico but I've seen you and others mention it.

Kazin: Got the FDS adapter working with the toploader, no expansion sound obviously. I also tried with my frontloader, which required an adapter and two Game Genies to extend it far enough. And... it worked a couple of times, but I budged it and it decided noooope. Anyway, I'll need to mod this adapter so it passes expansion sound, and I'm going to look into either modding the toploader or importing a Famicom, because the horizontal tower of doom just isn't feasible long term. Also, the FDSStick I have is an older one - it looks like it can only take four games on there at a time. No biggie, but I might look at getting a bigger one if I get deeply into FDS gaming.

Geez, two Game Genies lol. Weird about the FDSStick, too - the one I have has 256mb on it, which can store the entire FDS library and then some. I also didn't know the RAM adapter could be modded to output expansion sound, too, that's really cool.

Oh, sorry, I meant modding my FC-to-NES converter. It's a Hyperkin one that didn't wire up the expansion pins. :/
And yeah, I got this one from a guy on Racketboy along with a bunch of controller converters. I guess there were earlier runs? This one doesn't even have a case on it.

Oh wow, so is it just like a bare PCB? Does it have a button on it to switch disk sides?

It does, but it does make me nervous grabbing it to switch sides with bare PCB there, haha.

I'd say spring for a newer FDSStick, then, as mine has the whole library on there (and then some - I've got some English translations as well as the Japanese originals), and it has a nice plastic case so I'm not touching a bare PCB every time I need to switch sides. Easy for me to say, though, since you weren't planning on sinking money into this before I came along and started ranting about it lol
