Putting this on the modern side because modern games will be mentioned. Just a place to post a list of all the games you beat in 2022, and to mention your related thoughts. What was your own personal GOTY for 2022? Any other great games you played besides that one? Any big disappointments? Did you get around to playing all the games you wanted to this year? How was 2022 for you in gaming in general? - I'll be back this friday to post my own 2022 games beaten list and thoughts. (It's unlikely after friday I'll beat any other games in 2022 due to familial holiday commitments through the remainder of the year.)

I guess I just rambled and posted some updates along the way with Elden Ring. I'll dig around and see if I can find anything substantial, but I think I've kind of said it a thousand times over throughout the 9 months since I beat it. One of the best games I've ever played in my entire life and Demon's Souls (PS3) just beats it out of quirky personality and some biased nostalgia perhaps, otherwise, Elden Ring is my new #2 Soulsborne game and might be like the best thing I've played across the last decade. It is the culmination of Miyazaki's 10 year vision perfected into one legendary ultimate video game. 9 months later I still can't believe how good and much it succeeded my expectations. I had my worries as someone that feels open world fatigue at times. FromSoftware just did everything right and their way. A basically perfect game. Better than Breath of the Wild, Spider-Man, any Assassin's Creed, Fallout New Vegas, STALKER, Ghost of Tsushima, just think of any open world game that I've maybe played and Elden Ring destroys it.
Xenoblade 3 was pretty much right there too, taking the throne for getting the most hours out of me in one straight playthrough. 156 hours.
Might be a slower year for me and modern gaming, but hour count wise those two alone have everything beaten a few times over.

I also beat 61 games in 2020. But in 2022 it was 51 games. This is mostly due to playing longer games in 2022. Here's the longest games I beat in 2022... Game | Time Ex Spent to Beat Dark Souls: Remastered | 63 hours Dragon Age: Origins | 41 hours
Ever Oasis | 26.5 hours
That said, the game I have put the most time into this year is Red Dead Redemption 2. I currently have 120 hours invested in it, but I'm not nearly finished with it yet. Wouldn't surprise me if I put 200 hours into it before I'm done with it. More 2022 stats: How many games I beat per month in 2022. Games I beat in 2022 broken down by platform. Total time I invested into the games I completed in 2022. And Ex's 2022 GOTY is*...
Dark Souls Remastered on PS4. I LOVED this game. So much that I even did all of the DLC. I also beat it without using a walkthrough, strategy guide, video aids, player phantom summons, or any MAGIC whatsoever. That doesn't mean anything IRL - but for my gamer belt I quite admire this notch. But challenge aside, Dark Souls is simply a magnificent experience and I loved it from beginning to end. Here's my DS1 review from earlier this year: Title: Dark Souls Remastered Platform: PlayStation 4 Region release played: USA Year of release: 2018 Developer: FromSoftware Publisher: Bandai Namco Games Graphics: 4.5/5 Audio: 4/5 Challenge: 5/5 Fun factor: 5/5 Quick Thoughts: Dark Souls Remastered is a 2018 remaster of the original 2011 action-JRPG Dark Souls. The Remastered version upgrades the lighting engine, ups the resolution, has some improved textures, keeps the frame rate at sixty per second, various bug fixes, and includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. In Dark Souls the player creates their own character, and uses that character to explore a grim and foreboding fantasy world. The player is expected to strategically evolve their character and personal fighting skills, to handle many dangerous areas and vicious bosses. Despite having many strengths in its game design, Dark Souls is most distinctly known for its uncompromising difficulty. With Dark Souls FromSoftware respects the player's intelligence and never holds their hand. Some players will love the lack of patronizing, and some players will be lost without it.
Is Dark Souls a hard game? Well, by modern 3D action gaming standards, sure it is. In the greater lexicon of gaming throughout the ages, DS is not incredibly difficult though. I personally have beaten games I would consider more difficult than DS. Including its predecessor Demon's Souls (PS3 version). There was nothing in DS that offered the same level of challenge Demon's Souls' Flamelurker or Maneater did IMO. The Immortal on SEGA Genesis is a similar game to DS, but I consider The Immortal to have been more difficult to beat (without a guide mind you). Ghouls 'n Ghosts on Genesis was harder. Zillion on Master System is tougher. I digress though. Because staying within Dark Souls' release era, compared to the relatively easy action games of the 7th generation, Dark Souls was a rude awakening for modern gamers accustomed to the warmth of coddling kids' gloves. Yet that isn't to say Dark Souls doesn't have difficulty levels. In a way it does have difficulty levels:
Dark Souls hard mode (how I played): Melee build, no magic or miracles. All close combat, no arrows or other ranged weapons. Do not follow a strategy guide, figure out character build, gear forging on your own. Do not follow a walkthrough, figure out where to go and how to beat bosses on your own. Explore all optional areas, defeat all optional bosses. Play offline and fight bosses without summoned player phantoms.
Dark Souls easy mode (if you want a breezy time): Mage build, use ranged magic attacks and buffing/healing miracles. Use arrows and other distanced weaponry. Follow a strategy guide to build the best character and forge best gear. Follow a walkthrough to know where to go and easiest way to cheese bosses. Avoid the optional areas and optional bosses, ignore the DLC. Play online and summon player phantoms to help defeat bosses.
Now allow me to state the obvious; Dark Souls is not for everyone. Impatient players who need immediate gratification, or those who prefer relaxing experiences, won't find such amenities here. Pollyannas who can't appreciate grim and oppressive atmospheres will never feel comfortable in Dark Souls' forlorn world. People with anger management issues need not apply (your controllers will not survive). Players addicted to forgiving modern games will have a difficult transitional period.
All that said, any able bodied gamer can beat Dark Souls. Seriously, even your grandma can Git Gud. To succeed simply takes practice, determination, and an indomitable will. That is because Dark Souls is never actually unfair. This is a balanced game that rewards patience and punishes arrogance. As such, Dark Souls was made for stubborn players who relish overcoming adversity. If that describes you, then Dark Souls is a labor of love you'll love laboring through.
+A deliciously challenging experience. +Outstanding combat mechanics. +Amazing world/architecture/level/aesthetic design. +Phenomenal sense of exploration. +You gon' love gittin' gud.
-You literally cannot pause the game. Literally. -The camera is the true final boss. -There's rarely any background music. -Progression and plot can both be overly cryptic at times. -Enemy item drops like to fall with enemies off ledges.
*My GOTY would have been RDR2 if I'd finished it this year, but I didn't. - So that was my 2022 in gaming. What was yours?

Sounded like RDR2 was going to bury Dark Souls alive. Guess you felt different reflecting back on it? How do you rank Demon's Souls and Dark Souls?
Always love those stats, here's mine... fun fact: This was the first year I beat ANYTHING for the PCE I believe. And I got in a nice chunk.
Sony does have a cool "Year in Review" feature with stats and stuff too, but yeah pretty sure God of War was the single only PS4 game I played this year.

Sounded like RDR2 was going to bury Dark Souls alive. Guess you felt different reflecting back on it? I loved DS and I still think it's a solid 9/10. RDR2 is just on a whole other level. May end up being my all time favorite game ever. I won't say that's the case yet though, not until I finish it. >How do you rank Demon's Souls and Dark Souls? They are equal for me (both are 9/10s). They are quite different games in structure and game flow. I think overall DeS is more difficult than DS1. >first year I beat ANYTHING for the PCE I believeCongrats on breaking that ice. You might like Shockman:
