Oooh, Asura's Wrath was QTE-heavy, wasn't it? Like Ninja's Blade. Maybe it's not for me after all.
I've been looking into the PS3 library a little and it's been reminding me of why I had so little interest in modern gaming at the time. Everything looks so unappealing. Even Japanese companies were trying to Americanize their games - Vanquish and Binary Domain might be good games, I have no idea, but they look so generic and Western visually. Western games were in their dullest and most lifeless era visually (I vaguely remember people starting to complain about every game being gray and brown, I'm guessing that was around that time?). And the Japanese games with a Japanese aesthetic were niche otaku '00s anime - not the anime styles I like (ie '80s, '90s). All the guys look like girl, all the girls look the same, everybody wears the stupidest outfits, nobody looks the least bit strong or threatening, ever, not even in VS fighters. They drained all the cool out of anime and left it soft and corny. Again, I'm talking about visuals here. So it's no surprise that the games I'm interested are entries into existing series and one retro-style game with a cool new twist (so it doesn't feel like just a rehash).
It's funny, I like realism in movies and tv shows, but I really like my video games to look videogamey.
I'm fine with that, though. There are literally dozens of PS2 games I'm interested in, and I wouldn't want to find that the PS3 and PS4 have as many. I don't want to bury myself in some unending backlog. Besides, games from that era and now are usually long anyway, so if there's a dozen per platform I like then that's more than enough for me.
Other than that... If I get into Devil May Cry, I'll probably have to add more entries to my list. Bayonetta's gameplay sounds like something I might love, even if the aesthetic is really not my style. Maybe I'll give it a shot one day.
