Told my brother that I got a PS5. Asked him how he liked Diablo IV. He said he didn't want to shell out 70 bucks for it so he simply watched a 13-hour YouTube longplay.
It's never been more over.

It's never been more over. Exhibit X: Sony has recently patented AI tech, wherein whenever a player doesn't feel like playing, they can just tell the console's OS to start playing for them: patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=US427159498Although, considering the millions upon millions of people who'd rather watch other people play games via streaming video services, versus actually playing games themselves, such technology shouldn't be surprising.

Is it because of the $70 price point though? Wouldn't blame him then. lol
I played enough of Diablo 2-3. No interest in anything else from that or Blizzard at this rate.

Xeogred But what's the point of watching the whole thing then, even if you're only half paying attention? If I don't care enough to play it, I don't care enough to watch someone play the entire thing. Settling for these poor substitutes of real experiences only hurts you.

I think some folks are wired to enjoy watching people play games, and others to actually play them. I'm more of a "play" guy (obviously), but occasionally do enjoy watching high-level play from others.
Watching someone play through Diablo IV, though? Nah.

No way I'm watching internet randos play games for hours. I value my free time too much for that.

I'm just knocking on overpriced games but yeah haha, watching someone shouldn't be the solution either. All this stuff is stupid.
Now that said, I've done it a few times. It's extremely intentional and specific cases though...
- Drakengard 1, I dare anyone here to try playing this and have "fun". It's awful. But it's Yoko Taro's directorial debut of Nier fame, loosely ties into the Nier games, and the story is SO bizarrely bleak it almost makes Berserk look cartoonish. It's a wild and jacked up dark game with some nasty themes in there, kind of shocked it exists on the PS2. The main character is like a literal murdering psychopath. So yeah, got a kick out of watching a story cut of that one for a few hours awhile back.
There's maybe a few other things but it's so random, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
I watch streamers on the side unlike you guys, but I'm sure we'd all agree gameplay video is the best way to scope out a game. That said if it's something I'm really interested in and new, I don't want to see anything ahead of time. I also can't just blindly watch some streamers no matter how cute some female might be, if the game is lame then I don't care. Also want to emphasis this is side monitoring background noise mainly. I'm not pulling up my seat starring at these streams without doing anything else. lol, it's like live podcasts to me and if the game is mildly interesting or something I've beaten, cool.

I've seen several cringe worthy things from THEGAMER as of late. Guess they're the new Kotaku?
Also, you can dig up some of these "journalists" crying about Stellar Blade are the same ones praising Hades 2 for being even more horny/NSFW. Gotta love the double standards.
