The Genesis port was good, but as usual with Capcom beat-'em-ups, it isn't as intense as the arcade original. Fewer enemies, mostly.

SargeThe Punisher is one of my all time favorite arcade beat 'em ups. It's one of the few beat 'em ups period that does guns well. I definitely enjoyed it back in yonder years, I'm glad you did too. - I'm hoping to beat at least five Capcom games for this theme (hopefully more). For short games like Capcom action stuff, it works better for me to play them in my downtime during dayjob hours in the week, rather than on the weekend. This has been (and is still being) a very busy three-day weekend for me anyway. (Mostly been working with my daughter on renovating the guest house so she can live there.) Anyway DuckTales 2 will be the next endeavor, and I will start on it hopefully tomorrow. I did sample DT2 for about five minutes, and it already looks like a big improvement over the first game.

I'm all about Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Probably my favorite Capcom beat em' up next to the original Final Fight. The OST is insane. Never saw a cabinet in the wild though.

Cadillacs 'n Dinosaurs is fine, but it's a little bland and poorly paced compared to The Punisher. Much fewer weapons, no grenades, less general mayhem, bosses with far too much health and overlong levels. It still feels nice, like basically all arcade Capcom beat-'em-ups. I don't think I saw cabinets at the time either. I would have definitely played it, cause I liked the cartoon and beat-'em-ups in general.

I just rage quit Ghouls'N Ghosts (Arcade) after 50 minutes, was in the second half of level 4.
- Another reminder of is this just one of those series where I only truly love one entry? (Super Ghouls)
- Is it GOOD game design, INTENTIONAL, or WTF is going on with classic games of this type, that have multiple crap weapons that completely screw you over and make everything harder than it needs to be? Were devs just trying to give players variety for different play styles? The second half of level 4 was a vertical descent and the boss made multiple weapon types an absolute pain and not ideal to use against at all. After cycling through a few different weapon pickups that all sucked, I just wasn't in the mood to keep playing simply to get the spear or knife again for that particular part. It's hilarious when the Holy Water-like weapon drops and makes a jump near impossible, sometimes you may as well just kill yourself instead of risking accidentally picking that garbage up.
Here's where I gave up. You can see how ideal the spear/knife is here.

I hate, hate, hate that boss if you have a suboptimal weapon. It's awful. You can absolutely screw yourself over at that point for sure.

It was interesting watching the video you posted Xeogred. I beat the Genesis version of Ghouls 'n Ghosts back around 1990, but I never realized how true to the arcade version the Genesis version is. The arcade and Genesis versions look practically identical in level design and graphics. It certainly took quite a few sessions before I was good enough to beat the Genesis port, I can understand your frustration. As an adult this is not a game I'd be willing to practice enough to beat nowadays, but as a kid with buckets of free time and unrestricted gaming, yeah it was.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Maybe I was harsh on Genesis Ghouls 'n Ghosts when I save stated my way through it a few years ago, looking at a video now it looks just as smooth and nearly completely identical to the arcade version here. They're both solid, so I don't want to be too harsh on the series... but I wonder if some health would have made it better or more approachable. That wouldn't save you from enemy knockback and pits though. Most of the levels are rather short and you can sometimes just brute force your way through some sections with a lot of luck, but yeah it's pure trial and error with a lot of RNG on how the enemies spawn or the direction of their fire. Even without save states on the arcade version here, it seemed totally doable with infinite credits, but as Sarge agrees... I got totally screwed at the 4th boss and stuck with crappy weapons.
Maybe I'll take another crack at it. Despite finishing up Tomb Raider Anniversary and a replay of RE7, I don't know if I'm still settling in my new apartment or what, but I'm excited to jump into new games now... I'm just not sure what and hesitating to pick something.

, probably a winner. But I've been fully planning on playing DQ6 (SNES) first. I'll skip over DQ7 to get to DQ8 after that. Another big cozy JRPG does feel pretty fitting right now though, so I'm close to jumping into DQ6, or doing my long planned FF6 replay.
To fit the theme in this thread, I could check out Breath of Fire 5... but I'm not sure I'm in the mood for that one, since it looks a bit weird and sounds hit or miss.
Instead of derailing the thread, I made a new one for myself here:
For this thread, I'm still a little curious about these:
NES Bionic Commando NES Legendary Wings NES Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers NES Disney's The Little Mermaid NES Disney's TaleSpin NES Disney's DuckTales 2 NES Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2
I played and beat the remaster of DuckTales, I thought it was alright. But yeah for the most part Capcom's Disney offerings have been pretty solid from what I've played. Aladdin (SNES) still might be my favorite, but that's a lot of nostalgia talking.
I've been trying to find a good easy to read list of Capcom's old arcade games. I keep having trouble emulating AvP, seems like it's got some bad dumps out there I guess.
