Just wanted to get home from work today and play King's Field IV for a "little bit". 3 hours later...
I am definitely in the end game and spent most of tonight backtracking. Finally figuring out some unfinished business I had from my notes and adventure here:
The two Torches of Light... indeed needed fire. Maybe Fireball didn't work as I'm sure I tried that on the King's Castle one early on, but Flame Breath worked. The first one (with distorted voices in my ears, pretty cool. I have played all of this game with headphones because the atmosphere is that amazing) this room revealed a Magic Crystal in the ceiling. The second one just turned off some fire hallway trap to Widda's domain, so kind of pointless, but oh well.
Still had a stuck door in Craftman's Shop, until I finally looked around and noticed one of the torches wasn't lit. That indeed unlocked the door giving me another map I probably don't even need now, hah. From sure loves Fire solving problems (was a frozen corpse with a weapon too once).
Found a secret FLOOR door in the Engineer's Quarters with this Myu Bracelet revealing these secret walls. Wow. Gave me a Power Bangle, very nice.
Finally dealt with the Passage of Light from the King's throne. I thought this was maybe the end game but that wasn't the case. Getting through this area finally leads to an obtuse door that was sealed, until I saw the four indentions. So I finally plucked those four Black Eyes in there and got the greatest upgrade of them all.
The FromSofware Master Sword, MOONLIGHT SWORD!!!
And yet on my way back out through the King's chambers, his ghost/soul once again said something almost suggesting it could be upgraded again perhaps... hmmm.
Now I'm backtracking and noticed I can get the Sealed gear now... which is Lord Myu's equipment. I got the Arms and Helmet so far. I'll get the rest later.
The ultimate unfinished business could be this...
I finally now realized, this must be all the magic spells I've collected. I'm missing just TWO!? One Fire and one Dark. This is gonna kill me... I wager there's some reward. With this being my last first playthrough of a King's Field, I really am tempted to backtrack through like the whole damn game and find everything lol.

Xeogred - Yeah you might as well be a completionist, doubtful FromSoftware will resurrect KF ever again. So max enjoy your final entry. I respect that you're taking notes and not using any artificial outside aid, that's admirable always, but especially with a game like KF4. The final part of KF4 is absolutely amazing and kinda terrifying, you are in for something alright. But once you reach that part, I don't think it's even possible to go back, so definitely get it all while you can. There are a whole lot of FromSoftware games that have the Moonlight Sword in it. It's basically FromSoftware's mascot.

I knocked out Uninvited. Of the MacVenture trilogy on NES, this is easily the weakest of the bunch. It's not bad, mind you, but Shadowgate and Deja Vu feel more consistent in their tone. Uninvited suffers a lot from a tone that waffles between oppressive and goofy, and thusly is never really scary. Except for the skeleton lady at the start - that mess is terrifying.
Surprisingly, I don't think too many of the puzzles are that hard - there's a goofy sort of logic here that works. Maybe I was in the zone, or maybe I'd just absorbed too much knowledge about the game through Nintendo Power and having read guides before. Probably the latter, in retrospect. But the game isn't terribly large, so you'll eventually stumble on the solution without too much issue.
Anyway, I think I'll give this... let's go with a 6.0. It's a decent little game, but pales in comparison to its own competition on NES, much less genre greats.

I think I'll give this... let's go with a 6.0 Ha, that's the exact same score I gave it back in 2017: It's worth a playthrough once, especially this time of year. But nothing outstanding.

Deep doop dee deep doo doop do, doop dee doop doop doo. (That ridiculous cookie monster song, haha!)
Also, yeah, the soundtrack does kinda get stuck in your head, which is consistent with all the Kemco MacVenture ports. I wonder if I shouldn't give the original version a go. I'm pretty sure I have all of them on Steam.
(Honestly, though, it's Shadowgate's soundtrack that's just straight fire. Great tunes from beginning to end.)

I agree Shadowgate NES has a killer OST. Nails its adventurous/moody atmosphere:

I might have listened to this remix a bit much, too. (Sound quality not the best, though, but good enough.)

It's basically FromSoftware's mascot. I have a very good internal map/compass... but the ST/KF games are definitely even more hands off and a tad trickier to backtrack through for most of them. No way I could remember certain rooms, items, doors, etc without jotting them down. Sometimes I wish I'd keep my scratch notes instead of deleting them when I've "checked them off the list". An amusing one last night was "Forest Folk Chest in ghost circle arena" ... lol, somehow I kind of accidentally discovered that one again while I was backtracking for other stuff. Some notes are more clear than others...
I've enjoyed this in recent years in general. Kind of feels like you're part of the adventure making your own journal. I'll use a spreadsheet with JRPG's to get even more meticulous about it.
Never needed to do this for any of the Souls games, with the exception of Elden Ring earlier this year for obvious reasons (BIG GAME).
I wish the Warp Stones were still a thing in the Souls games. There is something extra satisfying about only having a few of them to juggle and having to think about where you want them. Clearing out a dungeon and then reaching another fountain/warp stone statue, it's always fun to think "Alright I've cleared this zone, time to go grab my warp stone and move it to this one" like an additional progress marker.

Finished a "horror" game - Akumajou Special: Boku Dracula-kun. Yes, I've beaten it before. I haven't beaten it on the real cart, though... but now I have. Fun little game, a little maddening in spots, though. The space elevator is just... ugh. I lost a ton of lives there, and the last stage is a bit rough once you've lost your health containers like I had, with no health restoratives (that I know of). But... it's still doable, even when the deck stacks against you. If you can get lucky in the mini-games, you'll have plenty of lives, but... I didn't, outside of one time. I kept getting the can-can dancers, and that mini-game is pure luck and I didn't have it. The roulette wheel or the ball dispenser are the easiest to take advantage of.
Anyway, cute, silly, and very Mega Man-ish in some ways, although the slow movement definitely sets it apart. I'd say this is probably a 7.5/10. Not sure what I rated it the last time I played - would be interesting to see if I went up or down on it.

Akumajou Special: Boku Dracula-kun / 7.5/10 It's pretty decent, yeah. Your score is close to what I rated KD seven years ago: Have you ever played through the Game Boy version? I don't think I have. Wonder how different it is versus the NES version?
