Against my better judgment, I sprung for a Genesis copy of Xeno Crisis. $80. Buuuuuuut... dat soundtrack. And it looks awesome, and I don't see that version getting cheaper, so it's fine.

Never heard of that one before. Watching it played, it reminds me a lot of Smash TV.

Yep, that's one of the inspirations, as well as Contra. It's easily one of the best-looking homebrew games I've seen out there.
In a nice little bonus, they also give you a ROM download, and if you decide to buy it that way, you can just purchase the ROM.

In a nice little bonus, they also give you a ROM download, and if you decide to buy it that way, you can just purchase the ROM. Turns out the latest 2020 NoIntro set has this ROM included, so I downloaded it and gave it a spin. This is one of those games that only lets you choose Easy or Hard, no Normal. The controls are very tight, and everything moves crisply, auto-fire is supported automatically and that's appreciated. The graphics are good, and the audio is solid. However, I was getting bored with the shallow gameplay in about two minutes. As a solo game this wouldn't interest me much. That said, as a co-op two player game, I think Xeno Crisis would shine.

Balance patch is out for Streets of Rage 4. Xeogred will likely be quite interested - Axel got a ton of buffs, and I can confirm he feels better to play as now.

I'll give it a look tomorrow! Good to hear. I hope the game did well enough to get an expansion or DLC, this is one of those rare cases where I'd support that.

I feel like modern Max and playable Estel are going to happen, which makes me happy.

Funny how Pocky & Rocky 2 gets ignored. Did it flop in Japan or something? The GBA game was heavily based on the OG arcade Kiki Kai Kai (so "Pocky & Rocky 0"), this one is a direct sequel to Pocky & Rocky 1... why not make a sequel to the last proper game in the series? Oh well.

Wow, I was not expecting my copy of Xeno Crisis to come in that quickly. Very fun stuff, although I definitely need to find an efficient setup to play it well. That Smash TV gameplay really begs for two sticks or an SNES-style controller. I found it a bit difficult to maintain my aiming on a six-button controller and manage to get to my grenade and roll button effectively.
It's easily one of the most polished indie games I've played on the platform, though. It feels great to play, although I'm not sure I'll ever be beating it... it's tough as nails.
