Well, they are also offering the ROMs for like $15, so there's that option as well. I'd love to see them throw a version on Switch or something, though, yeah.

A super version that lets you toggle between each of the three variants, that would be sweet.

I suspect you won't see much difference between the versions outside of audio style and color palette. The Genesis version even has an option to use a Sega CD for enhanced audio, much like Pier Solar did. That means it would sound pretty much identical to the Super CD version.
Interestingly, the Genesis version touts six-button support. Wonder if that really comes into play - it might if they give you a dedicated run button while still having a weapon equipped.

I decided to back/purchase this game: I gave the demo a shot, and it seems pretty cool. Decided to go with the Super CD version. Sure, the HuCard version is tempting (I don't actually own a legit HuCard still!), but it's also twice as expensive. And I'm all for adding to my tiny Super CD collection. It doesn't look like my type of genre but I'm always for more new games on old hardware.

Sarge Whether by selling or by seeing something beyond the forum, it's always weird to see real names to people you've long known just by a handle. I thought DK's game looked neat, but I wasn't sold on a huey just yet. I haven't checked the thread in a couple months - are there any updates to it?
Edit:
Sarge And you don't own any hueys?!

Sarge And you don't own any hueys?! Yeah, for sure, it definitely happens. It gets easier when you know someone by their real name for a long time, though, as well. I've known Ex from years ago when we slummed it on the RHDN boards, and he's visited me in real life. Still gotta make my way over to his place, myself! It would be cool, too, if we were all somehow able to swing meeting each other at a convention or something. And yep, no HuCards. The games I want tend to be pretty pricey. I do have an EverDrive, of course, but that doesn't count. I might get froggy and try to get Dungeon Explorer at some point - that's not too bad on price. I assume you're referring to the PC Engine Software Bible forum thread. Don't know what you've looked at, but it looks like the Kickstarter link was the big update. According to that, the Super CD version will be finished before the Kickstarter runs out (two weeks from now).

Streets of Kamurocho is just a mini-game after all. It's literally just the first level of Streets of Rage 2 with re-drawn graphics, and the new graphics aren't very good. It really doesn't look like a legit 2D take on Yakuza or Tokyo (it was made by some indie studio with a spotty track record, not the Yakuza team). The level just loops when you beat it, with more enemies I think. You can play as Kazuma, Majima, or Ichiban (the new guy from Yakuza 7)... but they're all Axel. Pretty lame.

I saw it, and was worried that was what it would be. The graphics looked pretty amateurish to me, and was expecting that to apply to the rest of the proceedings. I definitely recognized in the trailer that the layouts were identical to the SoR2 ones, so it's a little disheartening to hear that it isn't even a whole-game reskin.

That sucks. I'll still grab it though. It's funny I kind of had this idea in my own head awhile back. A spinoff of the Yakuza series done in the Streets of Rage style. Except, a legit full game. Would be cool... Did you guys hear SEGA is also going to be releasing some kind of cancelled Golden Axe beta for a day or two as well? Lots of weird stuff going on with their big anniversary here.
It definitely looks... bad. But it has to feel weird for the developers that worked on this, to suddenly get thrown out there in such a weird state.

Yeah, apparently one of the devs kinda overreacted a bit on Twitter about it. I don't blame him for not looking back fondly on the development hell, but calling them "f***ing parasites" feels a bit much.
Still, an interesting story behind it, as apparently they were initially not happy with it - it didn't look like God of War! - but they put a ton of effort in and it was received much more favorably. Not sure why it was cancelled further up the line.
