Can you switch characters more often now, or do you just mean selecting someone else after burning a continue?
I've liked using Blaze more often over the years in my replays of the trilogy, but I guess off the top of my head I'm not sure which version of her I'd consider best. Maybe you're right and it's SoR2 where I think her combo has a weird pace to it. But I seem to recall her being pretty awesome in SoR1/3 and having great reach + speed. I can't remember the last time I ran Max in SoR2 though... loved him as a kid, maybe it's been 20 some years haha. I don't gravitate towards slower characters thesedays. I'll have to give him a shot again sometime.

Finished off another run of SoR4. I'm definitely digging it. It's a great revival of the series. I played as a mix of characters this time: Adam, Blaze, Cherry, SoR2 Max, just fiddling around. Max still owns, but Blaze is a lot better here than her SoR2 version, so I definitely enjoyed using her. I don't know how her SoR2 variant fares here, but I wouldn't mind fiddling around a bit more again. Might be worth bumping up to hard. I'm trying to figure out what's changed, but I do know they give you less lives per stage than Normal. Also more enemies. I don't remember what the highest difficulty level was called, but I finished 2 or 3 levels on it and the amount of enemies was insane.

Think I'm going to grab it today. Got Ghosts of Tsushima coming in later too... so I guess I do have some new games I might be dipping into a bit for now.

I think I'm going to save it for the next time I meet up with chibby so we can play it together.

toei: Mania mode has always been nuts. It's not even remotely fair.

Knocked it out on Normal after a solid 2 hours, no continues. But it got super close on the last level, I got screwed over some turkey THREE times!
Played with Blaze, since I'm not sure if Axel has been fixed yet or not.
+ Feels amazing and better than expected.
+ Wall combos and all that are pretty cool, catching thrown weapons, etc. + I'll never say I love this art style or prefer it to pixel sprite work, but I thought all of the levels looked pretty cool and had a good vibe.
- Not a huge fan of enemies and bosses having that flashing white unbreakable poise gimmick. - Special attacks are no longer completely safe either during said white/red flashing enemy attacks, which I found annoying. But I guess this is maybe a caveat for veterans like myself, with the ability to regain health after special moves, using them to get invincibility frames during any type of enemy attacks might have been overpowered I guess. - Sadly... the big one, the music. There was like maybe ~2-3 tracks here I can say I *liked*, but would still probably never be anything I listen to outside the game. A few tracks near the end were straight up painful, thankfully didn't last long. SoR is obviously known for its incredible music, so this is a pretty big letdown in a crucial area for it.
I missed the ninja and some other enemy types. Some of the new ones were my new nemesis, like the policemen with their red flashing grab attack, or those annoying short stubby biker chicks. The glass chemical spawning/throwers were a nuisance sometimes too when they started getting mixed in with mobs.
Didn't realize until near the end of the run you can hold down attack for a strong single hit and do a variation of a special attack in the air.
Like some of the older games, I forget which exactly, Blaze's double forward flip attack isn't the safest move and leaves her pretty open for getting hit in the middle of it. But it really comes in handy for the wall combos and bouncing enemies off the ground. This came in handy when I could trap some of the bosses up against the wall and do a lot of damage.
Definitely going to get a lot of replay value out of this one and all the characters. Seems pretty great all around.

Glad you enjoyed it! Some of the flashing white super armor is apparently going away in the next patch, but I do appreciate that it forced me to do less hovering over enemies to whack them. The Commissioner was consistently annoying, and that cop with the grab attack is absolutely obnoxious. And the biker chicks.
Like I said, I liked Blaze a lot this time. I think Axel is going to get better as well. There were folks griping that he was going to get a speed buff up to Blaze levels, but that's actually consistent with the series as a whole; I'm not sure why they made him as slow as he is. (Blaze was faster in the original, but tended to be the same in the rest. Skate was always the true speed character.)
I didn't know about the hold attack in the air, either.

The Commissioner was one of the more annoying bosses for sure. I was surprised at how easy Sister Y was and the final boss in general. Brother Y was a little tougher solo, but since he got in the mech for most of the final fight, it wasn't too bad. It was a really cool fight though.
So what do the stars do in this one? They would extend your double forward combo in SoR3 (I forget about 1-2?), but I'm not sure what's going on here. More damage?
I just tried out Adam for the first two levels on hard. The difficulty difference isn't really felt, so I'll have to keep bumping that up. Wonder if you get more points for clearing stages on higher difficulties?
Adam seems freaking awesome though and his double forward move is amazing for wall combos or after a grab/slam/bounce haha. Great stuff.

The stars fuel your star moves. I think that's X+A on Switch.

Oh, so I beat it without actually ever doing those. Should come in handy next time...
I left the modern controls on by the way. At first I was seriously annoyed that "pickup" was a new separate button, but I'll admit I just stuck with it and got used to it. It kind of is a little handy so you don't accidentally pickup some food when you're just trying to beat people up around them. I might give the legacy scheme a shot sometime though.
