I've never been a Crash fan personally. Maybe I was too old for the series when it first debuted, I don't know. I'm glad you are enjoying It's About Time though. Seems series fans think quite highly of it in general.

Yeah, people are joking it's not a kids game, because it's so dang hard and probably catering to the original fans (but we rightfully all grew up with games that had balls of steel). I only have an ounce of little nostalgia for the original though. When I played the remaster trilogy, 2-3 were entirely new to me and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed them all. Sarge : That's the thing... I think myself (and you) are bigger 3D platformer fans here, but nothing in this genre should ever be 30+ hours long!!
I beat DK64 myself back in the day. But I recall playing most of it when I was insanely sick for a week or longer, I know I had mono at one point in my life and I think that was it. So now even just thinking about DK64, makes me feel bad even physically. I attribute that to memories of Rare's style back then with this game and Banjo Kazooie, the claustrophobic dark caves, weird camera angles, it's all almost nauseating just thinking about it. I never got that vibe with SM64 or Ocarina of Time, etc in comparison... Nintendo just did it all better.
I wonder if just revisiting it for a little bit would wash away the fever inducing vibes I get from it, mixing in with my paired sick memories around it, lol it's weird. But that was one of many N64 games that I sold back in the day. I'm pretty sure I went for 100%, I recall nightmares of all the colored bananas and playable characters, trying to beat some of the NES classics within the game or something. I don't think I got 100% but definitely did more than the bare minimum.
I have the Spyro remasters on my shelf to check out eventually now too. Like Crash back the day, I had friends who had the Spyro games so I was exposed to them, but I don't know much. As a big fan of Ratchet & Clank, I'm curious to see how Insomniac's humble beginnings with Spyro are in comparison. They all sound pretty cool.

I've always bounced off of Banjo as well. I do wonder, however, if I'd handle it better through something like Rare Replay, which I suspect improves framerates. That's how I'd like to play Jet Force Gemini as well, since it has something resembling a sane control scheme. I still have no idea how my brother 100%-ed that game back in the day.

If it's the XBLA version then yeah, it should be a smoother experience. I'm not sure I ever beat Kazooie on the N64. Tooie seems good but probably too long. Even though it's probably better than DK64 since it's more focused on just Banjo. I probably only got a few hours into that one, feeling no end in sight. lol
I recall liking Jet Force Gemini, but also never beat that one.

I'd wager that my opinion on the Crash games would go up with the remake. Much like Ocarina of Time, there are absolutely times where improved tech also improves the experience overall. Some of those old PSX platformers are rough.

I've tried quite a few of Rare's 3D platformers, none of them stuck for me. The longest I spent on one was the Conker remake on Xbox. But eventually I dropped it too. I'm glad Rare's 3D platformers provided so much fun for so many kids in their day, but that stuff's just not my jam at all.

As the weather gets colder where I live during this month: Though the game is not as streamlined as your typical Japanese Wizardry (I am missing the strafing of those games), it has a lot of quality improvements over Wizardry VII for sure. Being programmed all by one person makes it even more impressive of course, I mean this game is impressive even if I did not know it was by just one guy. But what it really makes me think about is the idea of, what if games did not focus as much on graphical improvements and instead focused on making the games larger in environment and scope. This is a dream game in that way.

Chainsaw BilqisI still find it impressive that you're playing Grimoire, that's some hardcore dungeon crawling for sure. I think we've talked about this before, but if you haven't played Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land on PS2, I think you'd really enjoy that one. I put a lot of time into it, before wussing out and quitting. I regret that, and plan to go back and finish it someday.

Playing through Ibag Tower in Elminage Gothic I think "leveled" me up in terms of dungeon crawlers. I do have Tale of the Forsaken Land (plus the Terada art book for it + Busin 0) but at the time of purchasing it those years ago, I was not too confident in dungeon crawling games and worried too much about the grim reaper. So I plan to go back to it now that I am better at them.

That one, along with Hungry Ghosts, are my top 2 "I hope these get fan translated into English someday" PS2 entries. But yeah man, I'd wager you'd super enjoy Forsaken Land. It's amazingly atmospheric, and really really difficult.
