Looks slick. So who here has actually emulated anything FM Towns before? I had to look it up to even see what the platform was.

I know about the FM Towns but I don't think I have. It was basically a higher-end computer, known for getting nice ports, and it got a super niche standalone console version, the FM Towns Marty. But I don't know what exclusives it has. I was going to say Altynex looks fine but pretty ordinary, but it does have a cool stand-out feature, which is that you also have a close-range sword attack. I think it might destroy some bullets, too. So probably above-average. Good music too.

Every time I think of FM Towns, I always remember this happened: The 1988 LucasArts adventure game Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders was ported to FM Towns in 1991. It's arguably the best looking version of the game too, with remade graphics and touch ups. I just find it weird that a very western-centric adventure game was ported to a Japanese computer platform. I had the DOS EGA version of this one, never did beat it, as the puzzles were intentionally obfuscated byzantine BS. Or at least, that's how I remember them from decades ago.

Is this the HRG effect? The day before yesterday, I decide to give ...iru! another shot, and yesterday I finish it. Today, the fan translation group behind that translation, Eight Mansions, releases a new patch. It's Yarudora Portable: Sampaguita, the PSP version of the third game in this VN series, originally released for the PSX. The twist is that it tells its story through anime cutscenes by Production I.G. rather than still images and a bunch of text.

Nice! It's a solid VN, I have the PSX original. Note that the games in this series share an aesthetic and vibe, but the storylines are independent. So this can be played on its own. Hope to see a Kisetsu o Dakishimete translation someday.

Cool cover. If I ever decide I'm beating Contra, I'll use this version.

Ah, interesting, looks like it revises the older Stardust Crusaders patch. I remember using that one back in the day.
Some notes here: the moving backgrounds look good, but can be pretty distracting in spots. But it's used to great effect in Stage 8 for sure - the pulsing alien backdrop makes it even more intense-feeling.
Also, the Japanese version starts on the second loop difficulty of the US version. Yes, they made our version easier!
