It's a weird new trend. PoPoLoCrois on the PSX got a dub too recently, though they did translate the text at least. I hate it, but I already hate dubs in 99.9% of RPGs, so obviously I won't like it more when random people off the Internet do it. It's super cringe, feels like watching one of those awful Let's Plays where they read the text out loud while doing voices. As with every other weird trend in fan-translations - the translations that include gameplay changes, the machine fan-translations - people can obviously do whatever they want, but I really think they should always offer separate patches. Less likely to happen with dubs, since a lot of the time they do it so they won't have to hack the anime cutscenes or whatever to insert subs. Which can be done, as others have proven. But maybe it's much more complicated than the rest of the hacking involved.
I hate Valis IV anyway, lol. 3 and 4 are horrible to me. I have dark memories of the ice level in 3. 2 on the PCE-CD is good. 1 is alright on the Genesis, even though it plays in near slow motion for some reason.
As for Golden Bonds, that same translator has translated several other Wii games, including other RPGs. It's really his thing. No idea how good those translations are, I've never tried them. And in fairness, he says in the readme that this game is flawed and isn't what it could have been but that the potential is apparent. He's created cheats to make things less grindy, but they all seem optional - you can turn them on or off (good). A few high-profile creators were involved as well. But yeah, that combat looks so basic and barebones. The combos don't even flow. And imagine having to waive a Wiimote around for every fight in a long-ass action RPG. What an idea.
