I just finished watching The Blues Brothers (1980). Great movie, a lot of fun. But then I though, "Wait, wasn't there a Blues Brothers N64 game?" I remember seeing Nintendo Power ads for it. Why did that even exist? lol

The film had a shitty sequel called Blues Brothers 2000. That's what the game is based on.

Aside from N64, Blues Brothers games also exist on PC, Game Boy, SNES, and Atari ST, because...

And why a collectathon on N64? Of all things??? Should we get a Big Lebowski collectathon on N64, too? I had no idea there were so many Blues Brothers video games. I love the quotes from the original movie, though. Especially this one:

Late 90's / early 2000's were definitely the times of techno, trance, and drums n' bass.
I put an hour into Bomberman Hero tonight. Going in already knowing now that this is completely different than Bomberman 64 was nice. I remember back in the day seeing the ads/reviews of this game and just thinking, that's not what I wanted in a sequel! But 20 years later I'm open to it being different.
How is it different? Well for starters, Bomberman can jump now. Whereas Bomberman 64 is a adventure/puzzler, Hero is more pure platformer/action. Bomberman just throws bombs now but you can still lay them down and kick them too. It's rarely necessary though.
Something I find myself enjoying more than most, are static camera angle 3D platformers in the vein of the Crash Bandicoot series, or something like Super Mario 3D Land/World that I adore too. Bomberman Hero is in this vein as well. So it's almost got that 2D sidescrolling feel in some levels.
Been two vehicle stages so far, which can often be super hit or miss from this era. But they're fine. Kind of Star Fox-ish styled levels going through water, then flying. Some boss battles around. Yup, it's a solid 3D platformer with some charm and holds up for the most part. I'll keep playing!

Gotta admit I didn't see an Xeogred Bomberman crusade coming in 2022. But I'm intrigued to see where this rabbit hole takes you man. As long as it doesn't take you here:

That no joke just put me in a laughing coughing fit. THE TRYHARD SUPER SERIOUS MID 2000'S, YEAH BROOOOOO!
I still have one more N64 Bomberman after Hero:
And this one is back to the puzzler/adventure style it seems. Also supposedly one of the rarest N64 titles since it came out in 1999-2000 with little to no advertising, low review scores, etc (I'll suspect people just wanted to move on from the hardware). Looking at videos the game looks pretty awesome to me, so I'm excited.
Even I couldn't have predicted playing N64 games in 2022.
I like the idea of replaying Star Fox 64 too. Since that should be a breeze and probably holds up really well as a rail shooter.

The N64 Bomberman games are excellent. I really need to finish Second Attack someday. I would love playing Bomberman 64 online, too, I think it'd be super fun haha
Don't sleep on the Shiren game that was fantranslated into English for N64 - it's quite good, even if a bit... primitive looking even for the N64.

A fan of the N64 Bomberman stuff!!! I will sleep well tonight.
Shiren looks pretty neat from a glance.

Do the N64 Bomberman games have a bad reputation I'm not aware of? It's not a series I follow super closely (I played a ton of Bomberman 93, of all things, on Wii Virtual Console with some friends back when the Wii was the current hotness, and the N64 Bombermans, and that's about it).
I figure I'll answer the questions posted in the OP:
So what was your first experience(s) with the N64?
I don't recall - probably reading about it in Game Players magazine, which I was subscribed to at the time. I don't know if the first one I played was at my friend's house or my own.
If you ever owned one, when did you get it?
We got it for Christmas one year - I think in 1997, because the only two games I remember having at the time were Pilotwings 64 (rules) and Starfox 64 (also rules).
Do you still own a N64? Do you still play N64?
I own three currently - one hooked up to a SDTV with an Everdrive, and with the wireless Switch N64 controller synced to a bluetooth dongle for wireless play (which works quite well). One of the other N64s I've set aside for eventually attempting to mod for HDMI out once I get one of those elusive HDMI kits, and the other is a Watermelon Red Japanese N64 system that I have as a backup in case one of the other two break, because yes, I still play plenty of N64, though not every day or anything.
If so what was the most recent game?
Ogre Battle 64, which I finally beat with the best ending, which was nowhere near as difficult as I thought it'd be as a kid (really the only difficult part was keeping a Chaotic unit - it's so easy to get Good and even Neutral units, but my Chaotic units kept swinging Good lol). Game is fantastic, play it.
Are there N64 games you'd still like to play?
A few - I've heard the Goemon N64 games are good, and my wife swears by Space Station Silicon Valley. There are others that I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment, as I certainly haven't played the whole library.
What was the best N64 game ever?
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, which also happens to be my favorite game of all time. Stone cold classic, that - I love everything about it. The atmosphere, the story, the gameplay, even the time system that gives so many people fits.
What was the worst N64 game ever?
I mean, probably Superman 64, but that's just by reputation because I haven't booted it up lol. There are games I don't like for the system, but if I had to pick my least favorite of the ones I've actually played, I'd probably say, I dunno, Quest 64, even though I kind of like that mess of a game? lol
Is the N64 truly a 64-bit console?
I assume so? No idea.
What N64 game has the most impressive graphics?
Probably Majora's Mask, though I always thought Paper Mario was gorgeous, but that's mostly just graphical style, I suppose.
Which N64 game have you put the most time into?
In sheer hours, probably Harvest Moon 64, I think (was my first Harvest Moon game, and it's a genre I play a ton of to this day, so I naturally played the heck out of that first one haha).
Did you do much multiplayer with the N64?
Oh yeah, plenty. Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, a little Bomberman 64, plenty of Smash Bros, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye... Went through a ton of those controllers back in the day (stupid analog stick turning to dust).
What was the N64's greatest weakness?
IMO big lack of RPGs, though if you're talking the whole market, even though I love cartridges to this day, not having discs really hampered third party development for the system.
How do you think the N64 compares to the PS1?
I've been trying to explore the greater PS1 library of late (I love my ODE and wireless adapter for my PS1), as outside it's bountiful RPG library, I haven't played a ton of PS1 stuff (as you can probably tell, I was an N64 kid). So, er, I've kind of always preferred the N64, but that's probably nostalgia talking lol
Can you tell us about some N64 hidden gems?
IGGY'S RECKIN' BALLS
*ahem* sorry for the big text. No one ever talks about this game, but it's a really fun multiplayer platformer racing game, with items and such you can use to attack opponents, sort of like Mario Kart. It's admittedly got that late 90s 'Tude which can be grating, I admit, but the gameplay is fantastic, and much better when you play it with others. That's always the first one that comes to mind.
Any there any untranslated (meaning not even fan translated) Japanese N64 games worth playing?
No idea! I've only ever played localized games or fan translations.
