Kazin: Oh, dang, missed this post. I follow Christa on Twitter, and good to hear she does great work. I've been thinking about sending her my Virtual Boy for the lens fix, if she does those. And probably a recap because at that point, why not?

And probably a recap because at that point, why not? Yeah, she was delightful to work with. No idea if she does Virtual Boys, you'd have to ask her. If she does do yours, let us know how it goes - I started up my Virtual Boy about a month ago and it was showing signs of needing work at some point, so damn it, I might have to ask for her help as well lol

Yeah, I pulled mine off the shelf to test some games I picked up last year, and sure enough one of the eye displays had gone wonky, sometimes just showing weirdness and others not displaying anything at all.

What spectacular luck, this backup PS3's Blu-Ray drive decided to die on me. Whee! (Watching Downton Abbey with the girlfriend, which is far, far more interesting than I'd have expected. I'm invested at this point, haha.)
Still, suppose it's not all bad. Swapped out for a 1TB HDD, and figuring out how to throw games on the drive. There's a port of PKGi that seems to work, and I'm going to attempt ISO loading from USB as well.

It's one of the big Phat models. Don't remember the code, but it's a non-BC PS3. Or if it was, it was through software, not hardware. I think originally a 40GB model.

That's a bummer. I've heard the phat models were shaky. The most lucrative ones with the PS2 capability of course...

Just told my coworkers I had to use the restroom and ran upstairs to boot my Wii U up to see if it had this issue, and thankfully it didn't - I hadn't used mine in quite a long time, though I suppose when we moved in here back in August I must have tested it to make sure it booted up, but I couldn't remember. In any case, my softmodded Wii U still boots up fine, and can read the external hard drive and everything on it including Gamecube/Wii games on it, so I'm not boned yet. I wonder if it's something modders could fix. Hopefully that's the case eventually, because while I don't use my Wii U all that much at all anymore, there are still a handful of games that are exclusive to it. Though these days a lot of those can be emulated, like the DS and 3DS, the experience just ain't the same on single screens. Thanks for the heads up, Ex.
