Got the Famicom A/V mod board, installed it, I have sound, I have picture - but the picture is in black and white! A bunch of troubleshooting with the dev of the board has proven inconclusive (tried different games, different TVs, desoldered some jumpers on the board, tried others, messed with the oscillator pot thingy, no good all of it). I need to order a crystal oscillator and see if that fixes the issue. Good thing my Twin Famicom works!
Man, desoldering that Famicom RF block out sucked lmao

I've done some googling, and it seems this is a common problem with Famicoms, A/V mod board or no - I'm hoping the new crystal oscillator will fix it, since that does seem to work for others that have had this issue. No idea if there's a schematic anywhere, but this is what I bought.

To be clear; was the Famicom not outputting an image at all before the mod? Or did it already output a color picture, but you wanted to mod for different video output compatibility?

I have no idea if it was outputting an image before the mod - the problem was, none of my TVs go up to channels 95-99, which is the frequency of Japanese channels 1-3 or whatever it is. So I had to get this mod to see if this Famicom even worked, since RF (all an unmodded original Famicom puts out) was not possible without me getting another TV (which is not going to happen haha).

Instead of doing all that desoldering and resoldering, I would have used an RF modulation adjuster like this:

Huh! Didn't even know that was a thing. I did want the better picture a composite output would have provided had I not had the black and white issue, but I had no idea going in to this that would have been an issue haha. Not sure I'm going to try that now, though, since resoldering that RF brick on would probably be a pain (though less painful than getting it off), especially knowing I could still have the black and white issue, if there's something wrong with my Famicom's motherboard or something.

I have color! Sorry for the blurry picture. It turns out it was just the crystal oscillator, which is an easy (and cheap - $0.69 part from Console5) fix! Apparently this can happen with NESs too, though it's less common. In any case, my Famicom works great! Hooray!

Awesome man, glad it worked out for you. Hope to see you enjoy lots of Famicom games now. I know we talked about Famicom Disk System games, but not sure if we've ever had an HRG thread for Famicom games specifically.
