Heh, I play NES games on my Fami too. Haven't used an actual NES in like 10 years.

I'd wager they're more reliable? Went through two NES toasters as a kid myself, lol. Not even from moving them around or beating them up at all, I just outplayed them or something.

They're toploaders, so there's less chance they won't read cartridges, unlike the notoriously unreliable front loaders.

Always wanted the NES top loader and that weird looking rounded, pre-SNES controller haha. But I moved onto the 16bit and later gens pretty fast as a kid. Then of course years later when I saw top loaders in stores for solid prices, I sadly never got one. Ah well.

What's funny is that, depending on the aftermarket connector you get now, a frontloader might actually work just like a toploader. Mine does, anyway, haha. I don't even press the cart down and it works. But yeah, it's the cart connector that was always the sketchy part of the NES.

Can confirm back in the '80s my original front loading NES had that issue. At first I blew on carts like all the other fools, until I realized what was going on. Then I started wedging folded paper towel pieces between the loader and frame of the NES, to add extra pressure against the pins. That always worked.

My trick was to edge the game all the way forward in the cart slot and wiggle it around using the tab. I could generally get it working that way, although my cousins' NES had a much more worn pin connector that was very loose compared to mine.

Yeah my NES' pin connector was slap worn out. I rented so many games back in the day, that thing saw crazy use.

I think this one got pretty warped by overt Game Genie use before they got it. Those really weren't great on the system, and we honestly didn't use ours a ton, so that's probably a lot of the issue.

Have to wonder if all the blowing and cartridge cleaning kits back then... if they were just adding to the damage.
