I actually think that was the Saturn's issue, or that Sony's gambit and push to 3D ended up being the issue (and start of some resentment as some are describing here haha). From what I understand the Saturn's complex 3-processor hardware was to maximize the performance in 2D games and it could do them better than the PSX. But yeah, they didn't read the room and the time for evolution was creeping up on the business again. 2D 32bit games are gorgeous, or those near perfect arcade ports. For my tastes Symphony of the Night, Mega Man X4-6, JRPG's with pre-rendered backdrops could practically be 16bit underneath in ways, these still hold up tremendously well in a lot of cases. But on the other hand I still love some early 3D stuff and appreciate that it was just an insane era for the medium in general in terms of creativity and devs having to figure out game design from top to bottom again. It's a shame that after all this time, Sony backstabbed the world and is literally not even a Japanese company at this point. I was a Nintendo kid, then Halo and the cool factor to the Xbox hit me at the right time as a teen and I wanted a 360 ASAP. But in retrospect, the PS1, PS2, and PS3 were consoles I moved over to eventually per each generation and actually kept them hooked up to frequently go back to... even to this day. Unlike the N64 and other competitors. So I FINALLY got the PS4 first and skipped the One, with no regrets. I was ready to finally give my loyalty to Sony in a way but that changed overnight.
The 3080 prices are looking very tempting lately. I'm glad I've switched over to PC in the last two years or so. I'll still pickup some PS4 stuff probably, but if I know the performance will be night and day or there's Steam sales... I'm going PC. I own 70 physical PS4 games, but after awhile it did kind of rub me wrong that they're just glorified install keys that need day one patches. I've been a hold out for physical media but when they're literally becoming pointless... it's hard to still care.

I distinctly remember the zeitgeist at the time viewing 2D gaming as "antiquated"... but perhaps they could have carved out a larger niche. I do think their bigger mistake was effectively abandoning the US market and what the US branch did to be successful, and instead chased being a success in Japan. And yeah, the system was somewhat successful there, but it still got trounced by Sony, and it got absolutely destroyed here. While I mostly agree, a huge issue with the Saturn is that it destroyed customer's faith in Sega. If they stuck with 2D, then the Dreamcast would be more of a "Okay Sega is going 3D now." As opposed to the monstrosity that occurred.

Yeah, that's a good point.

I think the library combo of 3DS/DS is killer That is a good point. Both the DS and 3DS have far more exclusives than the Switch does. The Switch's main strength is having a gargantuan library of ports. It made itself very convenient for people to play ports on. It's unfortunate that the Switch isn't retro-compatible with the DS/3DS though. From a hardware perspective it makes sense enough I suppose. Nintendo had to break from the dual screen concept at some point. I do think the Switch successor will be retro-compatible with the original Switch though. - I have decided I will be buying a Switch Lite. I intend to buy one next week. The beginning of September I'll likely dump a lot of cash to build up the initial Switch library. Gonna be hard to keep the library under 50 games, but that's the plan. I doubt anybody who posted in this thread has bought more than 50 physical Switch games? Seems the big hitters for you guys are the first party exclusives. Of which there's not all that many. Keep an eye out for GameFly sales (Typically at least once a month) if you have not used them before. A lot of Switch games go between $30-$40. While used, they come complete as well as any codes that would have been in the box. Switch games tend to not go below $40 new most of the time anyways (For major titles) so its a good way to build your library without totally breaking the bank. Quality has always been great for me, lookslike a new game without the shrinkwrap.

Absolutely. I've bought quite a few games from GameFly, and it's as practically as good as buying new as it comes with all the packaging.

How long have you owned one? Since Summer 2017. Probably Splatoon 2. No, but that's just because portable gaming doesn't make a lot of sense for my current lifestyle. I do take my Switch to my parents' house and play it in docked mode on their TV when I go to see them, though. It's super easy to transport and set up. Metroid Prime 4 I think Switch is superior to 3DS. Bear in mind, though, that I thought PSP was superior to DS. So that might just be a "me" thing. As for Wii U versus Switch, Switch definitely wins. I like what my brother said about it: "Now that I've played Switch, the Wii U seems way less magical." I'm going to add my own question: I want better battery life. I could get that in the 2019 or OLED model if I wanted it badly enough, though. I also want more official, physically releases of Gamecube games on Switch. I already have Mario Sunshine and Resident Evil 4, but I also want Metroid Prime 1 and Mario Kart Double Dash.

"Now that I've played Switch, the Wii U seems way less magical." I think the ultra low latency wireless video transmission tech Nintendo perfected for the Wii U remains magical. It even goes through walls effectively covering the interior of a house. It's true though, the Wii U is not a true console/handheld hybrid as the Switch is. Provide a new F-Zero game.

It can go through walls, but it's definitely not super far ranging, at least not in my own household. But I may have too much wireless noise from other devices that don't help.
After playing 200cc in Mario Kart 8, it definitely makes me think Ninty needs to do a new F-Zero.

I think Wii U is going to be one of those consoles that was ignored in its day but 25 years later people are going to adore it. Thanks, I knew I was forgetting about one other Gamecube game I wanted on Switch!
