Eventually I might want an XBX myself, but I'd have to do some deep research to see what of my OG/360 library still works on it. So the backward compatibility and running some older games in higher resolutions/performance is definitely really cool. Not to mention the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection sadly has Sigma 1-2... so the original Xbox versions are still more ideal.
But yeah if a new Xbox can be the ONE (drum roll) for the whole brand and my library for it, that'd be pretty dang sweet.

If that is the route it will be interesting. I suspect right now ray tracing in portable mode is a no go. So the question becomes portable 1080p no ray vs 4k ray tracing console. Ya, that might be a hard switch.
While I say that, my Laptop's 3050 will do ray tracing, but the fps takes quite the hit. Hopefully the 4000 series will be good. Or AMD trounces Nvidia like they are doing to Intel.

I think a lot of us have a PS4, too. Honestly, the best combo for the last generation was PS4 + Switch. XB1 never really gave me enough reasons to bite. That might be different with the XSX, though - I may actually get one of those. But it will likely come after a PS5, which also hasn't convinced me that I really need one yet. PC + Switch over here There was a digital foundry vid where they used a Steam Deck to play Metro Exodus enhanced with all the raytracing stuff turned on, but they had to play at a really low resolution, upscale it with FSR, and even then the frame rate was not 60. Given that raytracing strains even the mighty Steam Deck, maybe it would actually be better if Nintendo came up with something totally wacky and out of left field for their next big thing. I'm probably an outlier for saying this, though.

It's funny that Metro Exodus is an older game I've played on my main gaming PC rig, but it is still probably far more demanding and visually impressive on a technical level than like Halo Infinite or Elden Ring. Art direction is debatable, but yeah. You ain't maxing out Metro Exodus on a GTX 2060, lol. Graphics are DENSE!
Amazing game by the way. Best of the Metro series. I think I even like one of its length DLC's the most of the whole series so far. The main campaigns are a bit on rails and have big stories to tell, but one of the DLC's was a more isolated Metroid like experience that I'm always craving. It had some cool abandoned apartments and stuff too. I just love beaten down urban enviros in FPS's...

Art direction is debatable, but yeah. You ain't maxing out Metro Exodus on a GTX 2060, lol. Graphics are DENSE! Cause Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is using raytracing to transformatively change the lighting in a way that hasn't been done before in a video game while Halo Infinite and Elden Ring aren't. I still remember everyone's disappointed reaction to that first reveal of the Halo Infinite trailer. Everyone was like, "This is supposed to be next gen? For real?" Exodus is the first in the series I've ever played, but I like it so far. To me it feels like next-gen Fallout 3, but some of the gameplay has been rearranged, so it doesn't feel 100% like Fallout 3.

I'd say Stalker fits the modern FPS Fallout comparison a tad better. Not truly open world, but it has huge maps (kind of like Borderlands), with less underground sections like the first two Metro's. I like the original Stalker even more than all the Metro's. But I could never get into Call of Pripyat for whatever reason (which is fully open world too I think). I'm hopeful Stalker 2 is good, despite all its trouble development.

paulofthewest >why I really want the PSP on the big screen. If you're not opposed to emulation, PPSSPP can certainly do that for you. And enhance the graphics as well. >I really like my Wii U
>As for a dud, I can't argue against that with the sales numbers I think my comment was misinterpreted here. I didn't mean to say the Wii U wasn't a fun console without good games. I meant that it was not well supported by third parties and didn't sell particularly well. Ergo "the masses" didn't care for the console, thus "dud". >Since the PS4 restored my faith in Sony I remembered you saying you didn't like Sony, so I figured you didn't have a PS4. You probably mentioned owning a PS4 somewhere and I missed it. I do wonder however, why the heck you played Dark Souls with worse graphics in 30fps on Switch, when you could have played it with high resolution graphics at 60fps on PS4. >While I enjoyed BotW, it wasn't that great. I ended up not liking Mario Odyssey that much either. I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're the first person I've seen say as such about those games on a forum. Seems everybody adores those two releases. My opinion is neutral as I've not played either for any real length of time. I will say, there are other 3D Zelda and Mario games that the majority love, which I'm not so crazy about. For my stance, just because a game is Mario or Zelda doesn't automatically make it awesome via nostalgia or Nintendo loyalist blinders. Because that's how people's reactions often seem to me. I expect each release to prove itself on its own merits, and if it doesn't, I have no problem calling out the failings. So I have no qualms saying the only truly great 3D Zelda has been Twilight Princess (with the possible exception of BotW because I've not really played that yet). >Nintendo would be wise to make sure it can do 4K with ray tracing >which is going to take some time to do those two things and keep the experience reasonable in portable modeWhat could happen in that instance, is that when the Switch 2/Pro is playing in portable mode, it simply disables high resolution* and advanced graphic effects like ray tracing. *The existing Switch already dynamically lowers its resolution while in portable mode when taxed. Will be interesting to see how much longer the Switch train keeps chugging. I would be surprised if the Switch 2/Pro or whatever it will be releases before 2025. If I were Nintendo, I wouldn't worry about putting out the successor until the PS5 and XSX truly catch traction. And then I'd only worry about it in order to keep up the lucrative port conveyor belt. I'd say Stalker fits the modern FPS Fallout comparison a tad better. The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was phenomenal. I even played that one in its release year, because of the Fallout comparisons. I loved the game (despite how buggy it initially was). I put it in that required "FPS RPG" games to play along with Deus Ex, System Shock 2, and Fallout: New Vegas. And yeah, there's some Fallout DNA In there alright. I've not played Clear Skies or Call of Pripyat yet though. I wish the who trilogy had been remade for PS4 or at least ported as a collection. - So now that I have a Switch I just have to say:

More modern day Select/Start button replacement silliness. It's more of an actual button on the Pro controller. The Pro is really good but the d-pad isn't one of Nintendo's best unfortunately. I think I only used the Joycons for Super Mario Odyssey.

The Pro is really good but the d-pad isn't one of Nintendo's best unfortunately. Goes along with those flaky analog sticks. Well at least the Pro has a true d-pad, so you're not stuck using buttons as a d-pad like the standard Switch Joy-Con. Thankfully the Lite has a true d-pad.

I know a lot of people that have had issues with the analog stick, but I'm not one (knock on wood). It's a problem with all the modern analog sticks, not just Nintendo, unfortunately.
